“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
– Thomas Jefferson

Nutrition Response Testing is a non-invasive and very precise method of analyzing the body in order to determine the underlying causes of ill health using your body’s own neurological reflexes or reflex points to identify weaknesses found in organs, systems or functions which could be caused by a variety of things which can include food sensitivities, immune challenges such as parasites, bacteria, viruses, fungus, and heavy metals, as well as toxic chemicals. Imagine that your body could tell you exactly what it needs and the most effective sequence in which you should address those needs – that’s what Nutrition Response Testing allows your body to do.

In a conventional medical approach there are two key parts: the diagnosis (identifying and/or naming the disease or syndrome) and the treatment which usually consists of drugs, surgery, or radiation, to attack or suppress the symptom, or to remove or destroy the offending organ or part. In Nutrition Response Testing we do not diagnose or treat disease – but we also have two parts: the analysis (the assessment of your body’s current health status) and designed clinical nutrition (a personalized natural health improvement program). The analysis tests your body’s own neurological reflexes and acupuncture points. The neurological reflexes are part of the nervous system that regulates the functions of every organ.

(The following is a quoted excerpt, pgs. 68-72, from the book THE GREAT HEALTH HEIST by Paul Rosen, J.D.,L.Ac. Published by Warren Publishing, Inc.)

Nutrition Response Testing is a technology that obtains critical information about bodily functions from the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Autonomic refers to something that occurs involuntarily. Bodily functions like eye blinking, heart and breathing rates, digestive metabolism, immune response, hormone regulation and so forth are regulated by the ANS. There are two controls to the ANS:

1. Sympathetic

2. Parasympathetic

Think of them as our body’s accelerator (sympathetic control) and brake (parasympathetic control) – our “go” pedal and “whoa” pedal. When our bodies are healthy and in balance, these systems function properly and are in tune with one another; the sympathetic dominates when we are active, the parasympathetic when we are resting.

These regulators are responsible for the healthy functioning, including our ability to heal. It is when there is an imbalance, blockage or interference that we experience symptoms such as allergies, acid reflux, high blood pressure, chronic pain, headaches and the like. Think of these symptoms as “check engine lights” or “alarm bells”. These imbalances can be corrected safely, naturally and effectively by accessing the ANS.

The 3-P Method and the 5 Stressors

The 3-P Method refers to the fact that the Nutrition Response Testing technique is Painless, Powerful and Personalized. This empirically proven technique allows us to accurately determine what stands in the way between you and better health. In fact, Dr. Ulan’s discovery of the barriers’ to healing he called stressors… opened the door to the most effective, most economical, easiest-to-comply with, lowest-pill-count program ever. “And that, says Dr. Ulan, “is the key secret to our success.” (Dr. Freddie Ulan of Ulan Nutritional Systems, Inc., Clearwater, FL, is the founder of Nutrition Response Testing.)

When undergoing Nutrition Response Testing you will be tested for these five common stressors:

1. Scars

2. Food sensitivities

3. Immune challenges

4. Chemical challenges

5. Metal challenges

These stressors can and will prevent your body from healing. Many of you have experienced this already without perhaps realizing it. Have you ever failed to respond to perfectly good treatment? Have you ever experienced the opposite result to perfectly good treatment? Has your condition “plateaued” or gotten better and then worse? If so, these are all indications that your body isn’t fully open to healing. Nutrition Response Testing allows the practitioner to test you using the “stressors” to reveal and then remove these barriers.

Next, specific organ reflexes are tested (such as liver, heart and bowel) as well as glandular reflexes (like prostate, thyroid and adrenals). Then the priority reflex is determined. This step is critical to Nutrition Response Testing because pinpointing the priority results in having to take fewer supplements, achieving a lowered pill count and a phenomenon I call “whole body healing.” Have you ever gotten temporary relief or relief of some but not all of your symptoms? If so, then you haven’t achieved whole body healing.

Based on this determination, we will recommend specific whole-food supplements and/or herbs as well as dietary and lifestyle changes. This is all done painlessly, with the practitioner lightly pressing on different acupuncture points or reflex locations on the body associated with specific organs or glands, while simultaneously checking a strong muscle group.

The result is a personalized health improvement program that addresses your own body’s imbalances and corrects its operation. Our goals are two fold: achieving good health and feeling good again – safely, naturally and effectively. You are bound to get results as long as you follow your personalized program.

Accessing the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)

We use a standardized form of applied kinesiology, commonly know as muscle testing. In the hands of thoroughly trained health professionals, this highly effective method of evaluation gives the practitioner essential information about your body’s requirements for a return to health. Book learning and clinical experience, which are the sum total of theoretical and educated knowledge, can clearly help us get close to what may be required to pinpoint the solution to your health concerns. But what separates Nutrition Response Testing from most other treatment strategies is the critical information obtained from the body itself or, as we say, accessing the body’s innate intelligence in order to find the precise answers to your health concerns.

Nutrition Response Testing is very precise and scientific. However, if Dr. Porter were to analyze you using Nutrition Response Testing before it was explained to you, you might find it strange, or simply not believable – only because it is probably very different from anything you may have experienced before. If you want to get healthy and stay healthy, it is important that you understand what Nutrition Response Testing is and what our recommendations are based on.

When you come in for your first visit as a “Nutrition Response Testing” patient you will be presented with approximately 20 minutes of paperwork to fill out, then you will be taken to a treatment room for a Heart Rate Variability (HRV) health analysis. You will be hooked up to a computer which measures the health of your overall fitness and physiological age of your body. Then we will discuss your health history, your main concerns and your goals.

From there, Dr. Porter will analyze your organs and body through muscle-testing using the Nutrition Response Testing method. Energy flows exist between all parts and organs of the body. These flows can become disrupted for a variety of reasons. The disruption is easily discovered with his testing. As a Nutrition Response Testing practitioner, he will do a full body scan to properly assess each of your reflexes.

Dr. Porter will do the analysis by contracting your extended arm with one hand, and contact the specific reflex area with the other hand. If the tested reflex is stressed, your nervous system will respond by reducing energy to the extended arm (which will weaken and cause it to drop). A drop in the arm indicates underlying stress or dysfunction in that area which can be affecting your health.

Once the underlying stress is corrected, this weak muscle response will no longer occur.

Since Dr. Porter uses the body for analysis, (versus doing lab tests) it is faster and tends to be just as (if not more) accurate. There are also no huge expensive machines, no drugs, surgery, nasty needles or laboratory fees to cover.

Following your consultation you will be given the results in a way that you can understand, with a specific nutritional program to follow.

The fee for the first visit includes the Report of Findings which occurs on the second visit. If Dr. Porter determines that he can help you, then you will get a positive Report Of Findings and supplement/herbal recommendations on the second visit. Most people need about six months to one and a half years to fully regain their health.

Dr. Porter will “fine tune” this program for an average of six visits once per week. You then graduate to a “healing and observation” period, when you meet two criteria. The first criteria is you start to feel better and the second is when your organs are stable and and improving clinically. The “healing and observation” period visits are every other week. Your body changes as you heal and your program must be monitored and changed accordingly.

Although every case is different, we often hear from enthusiastic patients with great improvement in as little as four to six weeks. The quickest recoveries are often from those who have most closely adhered to their recommended nutritional program. Generally chronic health problems do not suddenly develop overnight. They develop over a long period of time (often years) with improper diet (which cause nutritional deficiencies and imbalances) and environmental influences. All of which have gotten you into your current health condition.

“In my experience, if my analysis indicates that you are not a Nutritional Response Testing candidate (nutritional case) then in all probability, while a nutritional program may give you some benefit, it may not give you the maximum results you desire. BUT if my analysis confirms that you are a Nutrition Response Testing candidate (clinical nutrition case), then, in my experience, nothing else will ever come close to what you can possibly achieve using Nutrition Response Testing and Designed Clinical Nutrition. I wish the best of good luck in your quest. Once I accept your case, you can count on me to do everything in my power to help you achieve a healthier, happier life. May you never be the same.” ~Dr. Dale S. Porter
